The Willis Building, London

Standing directly opposite the world famous Lloyds of London building in the heart of the City of London, The Willis Building stands over 26 storeys high.

Below ground level there are 2 floors where Xypex Admix was used to waterproof the basement slab against the Hydrostatic pressure. Additionally all the lift pits for the 21 elevators were cast with Xypex Admix C1000NF.

To aid the value engineering of this project, the deep basement slab was poured as a “split slab”. This monolithic process allows cost to be managed but equal waterproofing performance can still easily be achieved. The 2 sections (Xypex and non Xypex concrete) were poured at the same time ensuring no cold joint is produced and the Xypex Admix depth was managed on site by our Site Service team.

Xypex was also able to aid production as extremely large pours were planned and Xypex does not limit the pour size or aspect ratio, as long as the design criteria limiting crack widths to 0.3mm are adhered to.

A unique feature of the building is its "stepped" design, which is intended to resemble a crustacean shell.
